A significant number of city inns, taverns, and hotels were either owned by, licensed by or managed by German and German-Australian individuals and families. Often inn-keeping was the profession of the person, and often the family formed dynasties of hotel management.

There have been 18 public houses licensed in North Adelaide, of which 10 have had some sort of German association
