Adelaide Garlick

Biography

Adelaide was born on 1 October 1861 at the Bohlmann residence on Kermode Street, North Adelaide. Her father Johann was a tinsmith from Bremen and operated a workshop on the premises until starting work with the SA Railways.

While her brothers were educated at G. W Moore's school on Jeffcott Street, it is not known whether Adelaide and her sisters received any formal education.

In 1885, Adelaide married William Moses Garlick, son of William Garlick a builder who lived in Kermode Street as well. William snr had died a few months before the wedding, and it appears that William Moses and Adelaide lived with William Moses widowed mother, Martha, until her death in 1894, when the property was transferred to him. Unfortunately, William Moses died 3 years later at the age of 35, and Adelaide and her children continued to live in the Kermode Street house, with Adelaide eventually selling it in 1939.

Adelaide died in 1952 at Brooklyn Park, South Australia.
